Think You Missed Your Disability Insurance Training Discount? Find Out Now.

4 minute read - Important Update

Few things are as important to a physician's career and financial security as disability insurance. Disability insurance is often an overlooked aspect of benefits for physicians, but it shouldn't be!

You probably heard recently “Hey, you should get your disability insurance while you're in training because there are discounts available.” It's not uncommon for people to procrastinate when it comes to getting disability insurance, we know you are busier than ever! So before you think, “Shoot, I totally missed that deadline.” We just want you to know you may still be able to take advantage of a training discount before they expire.

YOUR DISCOUNTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE

This year the Big 5 Disability Insurance companies have extended a grace period to be able to lock in your training program discounts. Each company has their own time limit as listed below:

Principal: 90 Days Post Graduation

Guardian: 180 Days Post Graduation

Standard: 180 Days Post Graduation

Ameritas: 180 Days Post Graduation

Mass Mutual: 90 Days Post Graduation

To secure your training program discount you need to submit an application to the insurance company before the end of that grace period date, i.e. September 28th for Principal and Mass Mutual then December 27th for Guardian, Standard, and Ameritas.

This is a really big deal because of the magnitude of these training program discounts. These discounts can provide career-long savings that add up quickly over time.

This can end up saving you a large amount over the lifetime of the policy, which is why it is so important to take advantage of those discounts when you are in training!
